[Deadline Extension] IMM Open Call Exhibition | Call for Expressions of Creativity from People Living in Japan Who Have Roots Overseas

Application Period: 2023.7.21 - 2023.9.15

The Immigration Museum Tokyo (IMM Tokyo) is a project that through contemporary art techniques expresses the daily lives of people of foreign origin living in Japan and their feelings, that cannot be conveyed through words alone. For the Tokyo Biennale 2023, IMM Tokyo will hold an open call exhibition in the fall of 2023, using the show windows of office building in the Daimaruyu area (Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho) as exhibition spaces for people of expression with overseas roots.

Paintings, sculpture, recipes, lullabies etc. Why not exhibit your culture, customs, and expressions in the city of Tokyo? Through these showcases or “windows” in the center of Tokyo, where many people come and go, we aim to create a place for communicating the lived experiences of each person in diverse ways.

Application Requirements

  1. We accept submissions from people living in Japan with backgrounds overseas.
  2. We welcome participants from any nationality and age. Children, adults, students, homemakers, professionals, amateurs etc. of any occupation are all eligible.
