Happy New Year

2024 has been a year of new beginnings for the Tokyo Biennale.
Together, the three of us have formed an organization of General Directors.
We’re taking steps toward the 2025 event, hoping to sustain and deepen the connections we’ve made during the previous two editions of Tokyo Biennale, “an international art festival originating in local areas of Tokyo.”

The theme of Tokyo Biennale 2025 is “Shall we ‘santo’?” (“Sampo” meaning “to take a walk.”)
When strolling side by side, even in silence, a gentle connection is born.
Walking slowly without a destination in mind opens up our perspectives and allows us to see scenery we had not noticed before.

In this art festival, “art” is made up of all the events that we encounter, as they come to life during the course of a walk. Our hope is that it will create new versions of “us” among individuals, companies, and local communities, leading to public cooperation that will foster a better society.

Tokyo Biennale is still just getting on its feet, and we ask for your continued guidance and support.
