Musician, recording engineer, and audio critic. Born in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. Completed an M.A. at Tokyo University of the Arts. Lecturer at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, Music Design course. While a student, he received awards for his compositions in Japan and overseas, and his collaborative work was selected as a Jury Recommended Work at the Japan Media Arts Festival. He is involved in many aspects of music and sound, including recording and music production, writing for professional magazines, serving as a selection committee member for various awards, and appearing in TV programs.

Maki Ueda (JP/NL) is an olfactory artist who has been creating and exhibiting works using smell as a material since 2005. After returning to Japan from the Netherlands in 2013, she has been exhibiting her works around the world, mainly in Europe. Since 2009, she has been teaching the world's first olfactory art classes in the Netherlands and other countries. She has been nominated since 2016 for five consecutive Art and Olfaction Awards, the hall of fame for olfactory art, and won the grand prize in 2022. Currently based in Ishigaki Island, she runs Maki Ueda Olfactory Art Academy (www.pepe.okinawa).
Artists. Born in Tokyo, 1964. Lives and works in Tokyo. Soon after UJINO graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1988, he started to produce and present sound sculpture series “Love Arm” with electric products. From 2004, his practice stems from the idea to adopt "rotating motor" as an icon to symbolize the late 20th century, when mass consumption society rapidly started to take over, and claims "Research on the material world" through the artistic lens. The recent project “The Rotators” employs a DIY method to combine technologies with everyday products – home appliances, automobiles, furnitures and used records – all motor-operated, as his artworks of sound sculpture and performance. He previously showcased his artworks in the solo exhibitions internationally along with biennales and curated exhibitions.
The recent major exhibitions include “POP/LIFE” (The Hakone Open-Air Museum, Kanagawa, 2013), “The House in the Sky – Artists Reflect on Concrete Utopias” (Hayward Gallery, London, 2014), “The 10th Anniversary Remembrance Exhibition of Nam June Paik Wrap around the Time” (Nam June Paik Art Center, South Korea, 2016), “MAM Collection 005: Recycle and Build” (Mori Art Museum, Tokyo ,2017), “Yokohama Triennale 2017 Islands, Constellations and Galapagos” (Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1, Kanagawa, 2017), “Roppongi Art Night” (Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, 2018), “Open Space 2018: in transition” (NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC], Tokyo, 2018), and “Lives in Japan” (Yamamoto Gendai, Tokyo, 2018).
Artist. In 2010 Usukubo received her PhD (oil painting) from Tokyo University of the Arts. Associate professor of oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. Major solo exhibitions include “the circles open” (rin art association, Gunma, 2022), “SF” (MA2gallery Tokyo, 2021), "Kaoru Usukubo Daisuke Ohba" (LOOCK, Berlin, 2020), "Kaoru Usukubo Hannes Beckmann" (LOOCK, Berlin, 2017), "Crystal Voyage" (Kunstverein Friedrichshafen, Germany, 2012). Major group exhibitions and art festivals in which she participated include "Minimal/Postminimal: Painting and Sculpture since the 1970s" (Utsunomiya Museum of Art, Tochigi, 2013), "Yokohama Triennale 2011: Our Magic Hour" (Yokohama Museum of Art, Kanagawa, 2011) and "crystal moments" (LOOCK, 2011) Berlin among others.
Architect. While working in architecture, he manages galleries and participates in art projects. Creating photographic and video works from a bird's eye view of the city. In 2016, he collaborated with composer Masashi Isai on "Rules In Vain," an exhibition of sound and photography. in 2020, he recorded a video of an empty Tokyo, which was used in several NHK documentaries and other programs.
