Seventeen Diverse Exhibits and Linkages at the Etoile Kaito Living Building

Of the more than 40 venues for Tokyo Biennale 2023, the Etoile Kaito Living Building is home to the largest number of exhibitions (17). In a vast building that was once a showroom, veteran artists such as Naoya Hatakeyama and Masaki Fujihata, as well as notable artists such as Natsuki Kuroda and Kayako Nakashima, are exhibiting works that make us think about our various "linkages." Also Works created in Tokyo by visiting artists, such as Free Sheet by Pedro Carneiro Silva and Ardalan Alam, in which music is played for one person alone in the streets of Tokyo, and the performance video installation Silently Inside by Rosiris Garrido, which was held in a room at the venue. On Friday 13 October, ArTeas: Interactive Art Appreciation Programm Diving into the World of Naoki Sato will also be held (in Japanese) around an exhibition of over 300 metres of charcoal drawings of plants.

 

 

The IMM Tokyo Open Call Exhibition: People of Foreign Origin Living in Japan Expresses Their Daily Lives and Feeling

The IMM Tokyo Open Call Exhibition "It's Not a Cultural Showcase, but a Window to the Soul" started on Saturday, 7 October in the Daimaruyu area (Otemachi, Marunouchi, Yurakucho). On 14 October, a public discussion entitled "The Role of Visual Arts in Multicultural Understanding" will be held between film director Ema Kawawada, who attracted attention for her film My Small Land, and artist Shigeaki Iwai, who presides over IMM Tokyo.

 

Exhibitions

Please check bellow and the opening times and closing days of each venue before visiting. Another Slow Art Collective exhibition, "Window Garden," will open on Friday, 13 Octorber at the Hotel Niwa Tokyo (Suidobashi, Jimbocho area).

*The Otemachi venue (Tokyo Sankei Building) of "Slow Art Collective Tokyo" is closed on Monday, 9 Octrober. The Yurakucho venue (Slit Park Yurakucho) will be open until 15:30 for workshops. The artworks can still be viewed from outside at both venue.

Many of the programmes at Tokyo Biennale 2023 can be experienced free of charge, but some programmes, such as the special viewing venues, require a fee due to their location and content.
