Membership Regulations

[Objective]

Article 1

The following criteria sets the objective to lay out the requirements for becoming a member as described in Article 6-1, item 2 of the statutes of the General Non-Profit Incorporated Organization Tokyo Biennale (hereinafter referred to as “The Organization”).

[Types of Membership]

Article 2

The Organization accepts the following members.
  • 1. Supporting members: Individuals that share The Organization’s goals and support its activities. Supporting members include two types as listed below.
    • 1. Supporting Member (Junior)
      Individuals who are students or those in a similar position as deemed by The Organization.
    • 2. Supporting Member (Standard)
      All individuals besides those considered as Junior.
  • 2. Startup & Local Organization Support: Organizations that share The Organization’s goals and support its activities. Only student entrepreneurs working to solve social issues, start-up companies developing new businesses, and local companies in the Tokyo Biennale area are eligible to participate in this category.
  • 3. Special Support: Individuals or organizations that share The Organization’s goals and support its activities.

[Benefits of Membership]

Article 3

  • 1. Supporting members of The Organization receive the below benefits according to the type of membership.
    • 1. Supporting Members (Junior & Standard)
      • 1. Name listed on The Organization’s website and annual report.
      • 2. Free admission for the registered member to events organized by The Organization throughout the year.
      • 3. Receive 1 copy of the annual report.
      • 4. Receive 1 ticket to every exhibition held by The Organization throughout the year.
    • 2. Startup & Local Organization Support
      • 1. Name listed on The Organization’s website and annual report.
      • 2. Right to use the official logo of the Tokyo Biennale
      • 3. Free admission for up to 3 members of the registered organization to events organized by The Organization throughout the year.
      • 4. Membership of Tokyo Biennale Corporate Projects Conference
      • 5. Receive 5 copies of the annual report.
      • 6. Receive 5 tickets to every exhibition held by The Organization throughout the year.
    • 3. Special Support
      • 1. Name listed on The Organization’s website and annual report.
      • 2. Right to use the official logo of the Tokyo Biennale.
      • 3. Free admission for up to 20 members of the registered organization to events organized by The Organization throughout the year.
      • 4. Membership of Tokyo Biennale Corporate Projects Conference
      • 5. Receive 20 copies of the annual report.
      • 6. Receive 30 tickets to every exhibition held by The Organization throughout the year.
  • 2. All supporting members receive the below benefits. However, the number of participants events is limited to the number given in the above sections.
    • 1. Participation in annual debriefing session
    • 2. Participation as observer in parts of directors’ meetings, etc.
    • 3. Priority participation in projects and events
    • 4. Receive newsletters (ML)

[Membership Application]

Article 4

  • 1. Those wishing to apply must submit the designated application form to The Organization.
  • 2. To apply as Supporting Member (Junior), the applicant must attach to the application a copy of their student ID or document that proves school enrollment. In addition, this applies for annual membership renewal.

[Membership Acceptance]

Article 5

  • 1. For all applications received for the above types of membership, the board of directors will determine acceptance based on the criteria outlined by The Organization.
  • 2. Individuals and organizations accepted as members by the board of directors will attain membership through a receipt of membership notification.
  • 3. In the case that applicants are not accepted by the board of directors, the membership fee total subtracted by incurred transfer fees will be returned to the applicant.

[Membership Fee]

Article 6

  • 1. The member will pay a fee to The Organization’s designated bank account according to the type of membership as outlined in a separate chart of annual fees.
  • 2. All fees incurred during the payment transfer will be borne by the member.

[Date of Membership Fee Payment]

Article 7

  • 1. The membership fee will be paid annually by March 31 at the end of the previous fiscal year.
  • 2. See a separate section for the case of becoming a member mid-way into the fiscal year.

[Directory of Members]

Article 8

The Organization will formulate a directory of all members’ names and other information (address, etc.) according to the categories filled out in the membership application form.

[Prohibition of Membership Transferal]

Article 9

Members are prohibited to transfer or loan their membership rights to any third party.

[Changes to Membership]

Article 10

  • 1. When any changes occur to the information provided by the member in the membership application form, the member must submit the designated amendment form to The Organization.
  • 2. The Organization bears no responsibility in the case of losses incurred due to the failure of the member to submit the amendment form noted in the above section.

[Loss of Membership]

Article 11

When the member withdraws according to the regulation listed in The Organization’s statute Article 8 – 2, the member loses membership title.
  • 1. The member may withdraw voluntarily by submitting the designated withdrawal form to The Organization.
  • 2. In the case of loss of membership, the completed membership payment will not be returned.

[Amendments]

Article 12

Amendments to the above criteria will be implemented upon decision of the board of directors, followed by the decision made by the general meeting of staff members.

[Additional Regulation]

Article 13

The Representative Director will determine any items necessary to supplement the above criteria.
Supplementary Regulation:The above criteria are effective November 1, 2018.
